I love finding out about fresh talent and just got an e-mail from Vecs the other day with this goodie. A bootleg tech house track that I am loving. Free to download! Vecs is a NY-based producer and DJ with early support from Roger Sanchez, Chris Moody, Richie Santana and Scumfrog.
I am really loving the tech house sound of the new Bass Kleph single. The original is a great big room club / festival track with lots of energy and a great breakdown / build up. The remix by Christian Cambas leans toward the techno side of the tech house sound. A fun bouncing beat that reminds me of the Cajmere classic "Percolator".
Out now on the Great Stuff label, the new House single from Marco Lys + Prok & Fitch "You Need Some". The release includes the original plus a remix from Zoo Brazil.
Danza Macabra is a DJ duo / production team that also runs a label of the same name. Hailing from Slovenia, they are a rising force in the underground electronic music scene. For the ninth release on the label, they have put out a four-track EP with productions from Axel Bartsch, Patlac, SCSI-9 and their remix of a song from Silence.
Here are streaming preview clips of each of the four songs:
Justin Martin made the very first release on dirtybird records in 2005. Seven years later, he delivers his long awaited debut artist album with the very same smile and fun loving attitude he’s had since the beginning. "Ghettos & Gardens" is exactly as advertised - a tender and tough collection of songs that build you up with sweeping strings, then break you down with earth shattering basslines. It's sunsets vs. cyclones, roses vs. razors, and bunny rabbits vs. wolverines.
Maybe it's the streets of San Francisco that made his music this way - a place where you can see a beautiful woman and a crippled homeless addict on the same city block. Maybe it's the juxtaposition of the famous dirtybird Golden Gate park parties, where Justin's loving parents make tacos and chop fresh salsa while total freaks lose their minds in front of the massive sound system. Not a whole lot of producers are just as influenced by E40 as they are by LTJ Bukem, and even fewer of them played the jazz saxophone in high school.
Whatever is going on, most people would say that Justin is one of the most charismatic likable DJs to walk the earth. In this album Justin demonstrates his unique ability to blur the lines between musical genres, taking us through beautiful melodies, UK basslines, moody funk and devastating drops. You can hear the meticulous production techniques in every track - from the slow Hip-Hop style of Hood Rich to the heavy duty low-end of Molokini. The whole thing is fresh and uplifting like the smell of ozone after a lightning strike. Ghettos & Gardens sounds like nothing else out there – it could not have come from anyone but Justin Martin. Such originality is a formidable achievement, and adds to Justin’s reputation as one of the most talented and exciting electronic music producers of our time.
Ghettos & Gardens tracklist:
1. Hood Rich
2. Don’t Go
3. Ghettoes & Garden
4. Butterflies
5. Goldie – Kemistry (Justin Martin remake)
6. French Kisses
7. Ruff Stuff
8. Molokini
9. Lezgo VIP (Justin Martin vs. Ardalan)
10. The Gurner (Justin Martin vs. Pillow Talk)
11. Night Calling
12. Riding Spaceships (Justin Martin vs. Leroy Peppers)
13. Ladybug
Hard to pick favorites with this album. I really like almost all of the tracks. This album is a great showcase of his talent as a producer. The album starts out in the realm of deep house for the first five songs, with "Don't Go" being my favorite song of the first part of the album. "Ruff Stuff" is more in the tech house realm, with a nice chunky beat. "Molokini" is more chill with a summer vibe to it.
"Lezgo VIP" has more of a broken beat sound, with a Miami bass / 80s electro influence. "The Gurner" sees Justin Martin team up with Pillow Talk for a sensual late night groove. "Riding Spaceships" brings back memories of Atari 2600 gaming with the 8-bit sounds.

This one just aired yesterday! Starts out with some deep house and progresses into house and techno.

This compilation brings back so many good memories for me, both on the dancefloor and in the DJ booth. I have long been a fan of NRK and a lot of the artists featured here. I wanted to give you audio clips of some of the outstanding classics that are a part of this final chapter for NRK. DJ Tronic and Dancefloor Mayhem want to wish Nick Harris all the best in all his future endeavors.

The Hi-Yahs are a production duo from Dallas, TX. They have a new 4-track EP coming out on Prototype Platinum Records on May 24th. The “Diamonds, Gold Chains, and Side Ponytails” EP is a deliciously eclectic mix of all the best aspects of Electro House with a twist of dirty Dutch that doesn’t quit for four entire tracks. I was approached by a company that offers custom printed t-shirts, and had recently created an image I thought would make a great t-shirt. I agreed to review the t-shirt / company / process for a couple of shirts to check them out.
I was given a choice of two shirt colors, and given the colors in the graphic, I went with white and ash gray, both in size Large. The shirts they used for my design were Gildan heavy cotton - 100% cotton pre-shrunk. The shirts are soft and comfortable, and the graphic has held up nicely after several washings. They have a lot of different types and qualities of shirts to print on, as well as sweatshirts and hoodies.
The company is a newer start-up company based in Berkeley, CA. I found their website very user friendly, with an easy to navigate interface. The process of uploading my design was very simple, and they are great at notifying you promptly via e-mail with what step you are at in the process. Customer Service is available via chat and phone. I used the chat help to try it out and the person I worked with was very friendly and even responded to a follow up question via direct e-mail.
Below are several images of me wearing the t-shirt. I had these pictures taken in front of a cool graffiti image just down the hill from my house.
I agreed to review this company because I felt that some of our readers would be interested in the service. After going through the process, I do recommend the company for t-shirt printing. Perfect for small print runs of promotional t-shirts for record labels, one-off special events, websites, etc.
Maya Jane Coles hopefully needs no introduction. Her production and remix work is impeccable, and she recently released a dope DJ Kicks album. Now she is back with a remix for Bo Saris of his new track "She's On Fire". This is a complete re-working of the original material into a late-night / early morning deep groove.

Super stoked to be able to feature some funky fresh breakbeat tracks from Kem - a producer and DJ from Portland, OR. The Unstable Label from the UK has released a new EP from Kem for free. Stream and download the tracks below:
"Come Up" is a funky breakbeat track that continues to build throughout the track. This one is for fans of Slyde, Plump DJs, etc.
"Get Down" was my favorite of the two. More uptempo and DJ friendly with a nice beat from the get go. Great nu skool breakbeat vibe.

Last year Berlin-based minimal technoheads AKA AKA together with trumpeter/producer Thalstroem released their eclectic debut album 'Varieté' which held the #1 position on the Amazon techno charts for weeks and was voted one of the top albums of 2011 by the readers of Groove and Partysan magazines. To offer listeners even more varieté, AKA AKA & Thalstroem will release the remix collection, Varieté Remixed, featuring 32 previously unreleased full length remixes by some very well established names in electronic music and a score of hot up-and-coming producers too. The collection will be available as a triple-CD set, various 12" EPs and digital download.
