[music video] Tiga - Mind Dimension

This video will make you feel high if you aren't! Full of ravetastic imagery and the music is littered with samples from the old skool rave era with broken beats and acid lines throughout. Not to mention the simplistic hypnotism of the vocal snippet.

The Prodigy - Take Me to the Hospital

We've got two great remixes of this fresh new tune from The Prodigy. The first is from Hostage. Hostage throws some rewinds, warbles and fat basslines into a blender and sent us the result - a club banger that blends new and old ravetastic elements to great effect.

Cicada - Metropolis

Cicada will release their second album Roulette on May 25th through Critical Mass. The record will be preceded by the release of the album track ‘Metropolis’ as a single on May 18th.

The follow up to their self-titled debut album of 2006, Roulette effortlessly ranges in styles; from the best moments of vintage electro-pop on the euphoric lead single ‘Metropolis’ (already receiving support from Radio 1), to the darkest recesses of electro-indie on ‘Executive’, featuring Tom Smith of The Editors on vocals.

Dance fans will hear echoes of William Orbit’s finest moments and Daft Punk’s seminal debut on the gloriously percussive ‘P-Star’. Indie fans will latch onto Technique-era New Order. Pop fans will simply hear great melodies and concise song-writing reminiscent of Blondie at their peak. Throughout, Roulette is underpinned by consistently big and intelligent beats, washes of glorious synths, and the haunting, hugely melodic vocals of Icelandic siren Heidrun Bjornsdottir.

An album standout is ‘One Beat Away’, a product of the band’s burgeoning success as a must-see live act. In the past 2 years the band (Alex Payne, Aaron Gilbert, Heidrun, and drummer Duncan ‘Pixie’ Mills) has toured the world, becoming a festival staple in Australia, South America & Europe, playing alongside the likes of Cut Copy and The Beastie Boys, and playing shows in Russia and the former Eastern Bloc.

Cicada came to exist originally as the remix and production duo of Alex and Aaron, and in no time released a series of acclaimed remixes of artists as diverse as Depeche Mode, New Order, Chelonis Jones, Electric Six, BT and even lad-rock heroes The Enemy. They soon started working on their own material and after a series of singles released their debut album through Payne’s own indie label Critical Mass. Mixmag declared it ‘a gorgeous selection of songs’, while DJ mag gave it the seal of approval, stating that the record, ‘excels with its retro vs modern feel’. Through word of mouth, electrifying live performances, and with zero marketing spend, the record sold over 30,000 copies.

Gorillaz Go Bananaz!!!

BABELGUM Launches 1st Global Premiere Of GORILLAZ Documentary 'BANANAZ'

BANANAZ TRAILER:
GORILLAZ GO BANANAZ:

Babelgum announced today that Ceri Levy's Bananaz, about virtual cartoon band Gorillaz, has been selected to screen on the new, Flash-driven Babelgum website as the first ever global, on-line premiere on April 20th prior to the film's subsequent theatrical release via EMI including DVD and broadcast rights worldwide.

"As an independent filmmaker it's exciting to be partnering with Babelgum and EMI, two companies who are able to connect and mobilize audiences on both a local and global level, allowing us to maximize revenues in an incredibly difficult distribution environment " Producer, Rachel Connors

"Ceri Levy's film is punchy, irreverent and exciting. It is exactly the kind of edgy content that Babelgum's audience wants to see. It also contains very positive messages to aspiring musicians, which sits in line with our commitment to nurturing new talent. Selected clips of the feature-length version are already screening on Babelgum web and mobile." Valerio Zingarelli, CEO, Babelgum

Bananaz is an un-sanitised, free-wheeling documentary film, taking down the virtual walls of Gorillaz in an intimate, honest and often hilarious account of the working relationship between Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett and their extraordinary creative process.

"I am convinced that Babelgum will prove to be the perfect platform upon which to release Bananaz." Director, Ceri Levy

"An unconventional film premieres in an unconventional way - when the ingredients are this good, who needs convention?"
Miles Leonard, President, Parlophone Records

From 2000 to 2006 director Ceri Levy filmed alongside the creators behind the scenes, from first drawings, animations, music and the musicians, through to the faces behind the voices of Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel Hobbs. Made with the spirit of collaboration and madness that is Gorillaz, Bananaz also has appearances from many of those who occasionally pass through this virtual band; Dennis Hopper, De la Soul, Ibrahim Ferrer, Dangermouse, Dan the Automator, D12, Bootie Brown and Neneh Cherry.

Bananaz received its first theatrical premiere at the 58th Berlin Film Festival and went on to receive cult status on the festival circuit from South by South West to Edinburgh.

Babelgum will also launch a Gorillaz channel, featuring live concerts, videos, two new games, a fan competition and exclusive Bananaz clips along with its four-week exclusive screening presentation of the film. Babelgum music has created a platform that allows artists to express themselves in a visually compelling way. It also allows fans to engage and explore music in a content rich environment. Bananaz will be the first of many exclusives planned for the channel.

MORE ABOUT GORILLAZ

In the late 1990's Jamie Hewlett met Damon Albarn and the concept of Gorillaz was born sometime after. Gorillaz released their self-titled debut album in 2001 and a second album, Demon Days followed in 2005. Their reputation for musical and visual innovation was cemented, while their ever more inventive videos and sublime live shows gathered critical praise. With global sales in excess of 12 million, Gorillaz became the most successful virtual band ever. There were awards too: Grammy's, Brits and MTV awards around the globe - a cartoon band has seemingly taken the world by storm.

[music video] Don Diablo - Hooligans Never Surrender

This is a rave-tastic new video from Don Diablo, the producer / remixer taking the world by storm!

Melnyk

{Melnyk}

A classically trained musician, producer, DJ and label boss, Melnyk has been busy indeed. Since the launch of his critically acclaimed debut “Silence”, Melnyk has concentrated on building the Gaymonkey empire, launching the careers of Swedish electro darlings Sara Berg and Ebb. He lives in south London and DJs his trademark electrodisco sets regularly across Scandinavia, Canada and the UK.

The new album – “Revolutions” is a fantastic return, incorporating Melnyk’s trademark dark electrodisco sound and nu-pop perfection. The title track (and first single) features newcomer Sebastian Muravchik of London’s underground italo group Heartbreak. Muravchik’s inimitable vocal style offers the ideal delivery for this midtempo groover.

The collaborations continue. Sara Berg is back with two tracks - including infectious future single “The Competition” and the heart wrenching “I Have Erased”. Temposhark lend their wares to the techhouse offering “Hurricane”. And labelmate Ebb closes the affair with the stunning track “Cadence”.

Melnyk’s debut album “Silence” has received universal acclaim for it’s fresh approach to the electro genre. The LP has caught the ears of DJs and music fans alike - including the Pet Shop Boys - who asked Melnyk to remix their single “I’m With Stupid” and selected the track to appear on their “Fundamentalism” album. The mix went on to be a bestseller across Europe.

With his trademark style in demand, Melnyk has also produced and co-written tracks for electro-crooner Louie Austen. “Disco Dancer” – the first single to be lifted from the LP “Iguana” (Klein Records) – was an instant electrodisco classic - climbing to the top of the charts.

Melnyk arrived in London in the late nineties, fresh off the boat from Alberta, Canada. Although he had been able to carve out a niche scene in the mid-90s, by promoting and DJing at his own club night inspired by the Brit Pop explosion and 80s new wave - Melnyk was craving something more, and the sparkling shores of the UK were beckoning.

Melnyk studied classical electro-acoustic composition university, where he honed his skills in the style he has since applied to his current productions - minimal pop music, akin to influential artists such as John Cage, Orbital and Björk. Realizing he was never going to be happy as a straight up classical musician/ composer due to his love for beats and bass, he made the transition and began to produce his own blend of electro.

The hook up with his label mate Sara Berg - who runs the Swedish side of Gaymonkey Records from Stockholm - occurred as a chance meeting one fateful summer's day in the Mediterranean. The two had hit it off instantly, recognizing their shared musical interest and love for expensive cocktails. The rest is history.

But in the current influx of all things electro, Melnyk stands out by his varied approach to making music, by not only his strong grasp of songwriting, but his ability to cover a wide range of feelings and moods - not just pumping out electro beats for the dancefloor. He states: “I want to make music people can listen to in a club and at home - music which is accessible by everyone, not just by those cliquey, niche circles.”

“Revolutions” is Melnyk’s new album on Gaymonkey Records : featuring 'Revolutions' and 'The Competition'

Divas remixed

So I've also been receiving a lot of pop / dance / diva remixes, which if they are good, I love them. Please send them in, along with everything else you've been sending us! We are always looking for more tribal, tech house, techno, breaks, dubstep, drum-n-bass, house, progressive, acid and electro. I may start posting up some accapellas and other samples if you would find that helpful / inspirational.

So now, let's hear some of the ladies remixed!

Hip-Hop vs Electronic Beats

This is one of those mega music posts - we've got 7 free tracks to share with you in this one! All of these tracks have a hip-hop base, but have been remixed, re-imagined and mashed up for your listening pleasure. Not all of these are brand new tunes - some have been floating around the web for a while, but I was just saving these up for just such a post as this.

Enjoy the beats!

First up, we've got the Conquistadors remix of 'Stuntin Like My Daddy' by Birdman and Lil Wayne. This is a smokin' hot electro club banger. I enjoy playing it pitched up a little bit. Sure fire Dancefloor Mayhem with this one!

Bossasaurus

Bossasaurus is an electro/prog-hop music production team from Oakland, CA. Their music falls somewhere in between DJ Shadow, Daft Punk and Aphex Twin. They have been the featured "Artist of the Week" on MySpace Music and their new Dino Riders Mega Mix was featured on the front page of Vimby.com. The mix is free for download below and contains 17 minutes of original music and remixes.

Their debut album is currently being mixed by Mike Cresswell (Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Third Eye Blind, etc.) and features collaborations from some of indie hip-hop’s most revered artists.

Before we give you the free music, you have to watch this promo video. Some of the funniest shit I have seen in a while. These two make dope beats and are goofy as hell. That is a winning combination in my book.

Circlesquare - Hey You Guys

{Circlesquare}

Circlesquare is a brilliant three person group from Berlin, Germany. We were recently sent a couple of treats from the group to share with you. We've got two free songs and a music video, as well as some info about the band.

The latest Circlesquare single - 'Hey You Guys' is coming out on April 7th. It is currently available @ Beatport as a pre-release.

From the press release:

Circlesquare's new album, Songs About Dancing And Drugs is a veritable box of surprises, and the stunners just keep coming. Hot on the heels of lead single 'Dancers', which featured remixes from Konrad Black and Lowfish, Circlesquare return with 'Hey You Guys', backed by remixes from DFA artist The Juan MacLean and Ed Banger's Mickey Moonlight. Taken as a whole, the four-track EP spans a range of moods from the morose to the manic, making an unexpected keystone in the arc from rock to dance music.

'Hey You Guys' is the opening track off Songs About Dancing And Drugs, and it is the perfect introduction to Circlesquare's contemplative and conflicted world. Bathed in cathedral-sized reverb, the song's nimble guitar lines, martial drums, and cavernous ambiance reference an unusual array of musical touchstones—blissed-out shoegaze, Seefeel's electronic dub, Fugazi at their most precise. Shaw's lyrics, meanwhile, paint an ambivalent picture of club culture's turn-ons and drop-outs—a litany of regrets wrapped up with the invigorating chorus, "This is it/ This is ours/ Here we go."

The Juan MacLean has clearly taken the latter sentiment to heart, turning in a slow-burning powerhouse amped up on acid oscillations and overdriven drums. If Songs About Dancing And Drugs is a look back at the wild life, the remix is a snapshot of dance-floor mayhem in full flame. The Juan MacLean is no stranger to the groove—his cuts like "Give Me Every Little Thing" and "Happy House," plus remixes for the likes of Daft Punk, Matthew Dear, and Roy Davis, Jr., have become club staples for the way that they bridge the worlds of disco, house, and rock. This time out, he turns up the tension with a peak-hour stormer that creeps along at a death-disco BPM. Circlesquare's music has never been stranger to the pleasures of the slow and low, but MacLean sheds the languor in favor of a methodical, machine-fueled grind that's lubed with sweat. Both versions of the remix, vocal and instrumental, are simply mammoth.

Rising star Mickey Moonlight (aka disco mystic Midnight Mike) switches up the mood considerably, kitting out "Hey You Guys" in dreamy synthesizers, bells, and kalimba; where The Juan MacLean's rework is charred and blackened, Mickey Moonlight's version is moonlight-dappled, splashed with watercolors, and rubbed down with bee pollen. Lush and psychedelic, in other words, not what you might expect from an artist affiliated with the Ed Banger camp, but Mickey's catalogue so far (including remixes for Franz Ferdinand, Natacha Atlas, and D.C. Recordings' Higamos Hogamos) is ample proof he's not your average blog-rocker. No wonder The Guardian's Tony Naylor dubbed Mickey's debut single "the thinking fan's pop moment of 2008." With its loping groove and careful balance between live play and programmed beats, the Mickey Moonlight mix pulls you in and holds you close, drawing an unexpected innocence out of a song that's all about disillusionment. More than a parlor trick, it's positively magical.

Named by both XLR8R Magazine and Beatport as one of the artists to watch in 2009, his tracks have been finding their way onto radio playlists on stations like UK's Radio 1 and Kiss 100, and into DJ sets of people like Sinden, Moby, Crookers, Drop the Lime, and Steve Aoki.

"Rock It Out" is AC Slater's follow up to the chart topping "Jack Got Jacked" EP released in fall 2008. Rock It Out comes loaded with 4 massive tunes with 2 major remixes. “No Party For Old Men” is a wikkid Brooklyn-bass smasher, “Night Shift” will keep ‘em up till 8am, “Rock It Out” is a proven crowd pleaser and “Hello” is a dubstep tune to be ranked up there with the kings of the scene! Remixes of the title tune by London’s Scott Cooper who slows it down and gives it a funky clean feel and Chicago’s club price, Rob Threezy who gets down and dirty with the bass!

New Deekline and Wizard album!

Deekline and Wizard have a new full length album dropping April 13th called "Back Up, Coming Through".

Here is some info from the press release:

Against The Grain Records, the label behind the Freestylers and Krafty Kuts, are proud to present the bootylicious new album “Back Up, Coming Through” by Deekline & Wizard. With a joint résumé littered with top ten hits, high profile production and studio work (for Xpress 2, Chemical Brothers, DJ Fresh, M.I.A, Lady Soveriegn and more), acclaimed remixes for the likes of Armand Van Helden and the Prodigy and a debut album smash in the form of ‘Breaks, Beats & Blondes’, there is no questioning Deekline & Wizard’s pedigree.

Deekline & Wizard have always been ambassadors for a strong vocal and the album is loaded with new and undiscovered talent amassed on their travels. From reggae inspired, jungle institution TopCat to UK hip hop exile Fallacy; from gospel star and former Drifters member Vic Bynoe to genre jumping Canadian MC Flipside (who has spent the last decade adding his stamp to international chart toppers) and regular collaborator Yolanda, whose soulful turns on tracks including ‘Ready For Your Love’ truly showcase a new direction for the previous booty bounce specialists.

A trip to the Americas threw up Detroit’s ghetto tech pioneer DJ Assault who adds his baritone twang to the minimalistic, A-Town sound of ‘One In The Front’ and ‘Keep It Pushing’, two cuts that perhaps best showcase the increased musicality their new productions offer. These musical kleptomaniacs also set off with their swag bag travelling to Sofia in Bulgaria, where they found classically trained musician Andronia Popova. Singer and string arranger extraordinaire Andronia, was exactly what the boys were looking for and her live strings provide a depth of listening on singles ‘Angels’ and ‘Dancehall Thrilla’. In addition the latter track brought the boys full circle and back to London where they hooked up with achingly cool Hadouken founder and singer James Smith, whose vocals provide the perfect antidote to the ragga stylings of MC Navigator. There’s never been any doubt that the Deekline & Wizard pairing can produce consistently exciting club smashes, but on "Back Up, Coming Through" the pair have produced hook heavy joints set to take them to kitchen radios and car stereos around the country.

1. Bounce & Rebound
2. Back Up (Love For The Music)
3. Fire
4. Ready For Your Love

He's played to a room full of suited Japanese businessmen when showcasing Pioneer's latest equipment, in front of 60,000 people in South America and just about every imaginable situation in-between.
